Dear Guo Laoshi

I am in Beijing and on my way home to Hawaií tomorrow. We had a good trip up to Beijing on the train.

I wanted to write to you and your colleagues to thank you all for your many kindnesses. When one says "Wuhan" people always say that the weather is "hot (hen ri)," and I always reply that "so are the people (ren ye hen ri)". I enjoyed my semester at Wuda enormously, and expect that I will continue to hear from students and colleagues in the future.

The conference at the end of the semester was a treat, and seeing the Guodian bamboo strips and the tomb was most exciting.

Please have a good and productive summer, and I'll see you along the way.
